3 Reflections for World Sleep Day

3 Reflections for World Sleep Day

March 17 is World Sleep Day and activities around the world will help promote the goal to “sleep soundly, nurture life.”  It’s not just a day to celebrate catching up on the elusive good night’s rest, but it is a cause to raise awareness of important issues related to sleep.

In honor of this day we wanted to take part in the global activities and explore our three recommendations for achieving this important pursuit.

Sleep Goal #1: Choose the right mattress

There are many factors involved in the quest for a fulfilling night of sleep, but the basic building block is always going to be your foundation – your mattress.  It can be overwhelming trying to find the perfect size, style, and comfort level but this is not a task to be taken lightly.  Keep in mind that softer is not always better.  Take the time to really research the advantages of the varying firmness levels, and find a mattress that matches your body’s needs.

Sleep Goal #2: Create a comfortable space

Comfort goes much deeper than just the surface you are sleeping on. Building the right environment that is conducive for rest and relaxation is an important element of the process.  Often our bedroom is the last part of our house that gets the full attention when it comes to design.  Define your style and create an oasis that will achieve your desired aesthetic, maximize your comfort, and enable you to achieve optimal sleep.

Sleep Goal #3: Get enough sleep

Life can get hectic. Between jobs, kids, and hobbies, who has time for a recommended full night’s sleep?  But since we spend up to one-third of our lives sleeping it is important to pay attention to our patterns.  How much sleep we get can be directly indicative of our overall health.  Not getting enough sleep can lead to health and mental issues, and not being able to seep can be a sign of underlying concerns.  It is recommended that we all get 7-9 hours nightly.

World Sleep Day is the perfect opportunity to reflect on our daily sleep habits. Take a moment and evaluate your mattress, create a comfortable space, and make sure you are getting an adequate amount of sleep.  Your body and mind will thank you.
